Virtual Reality Systems
The Florida Museum’s 3D lab houses a Meta Quest Virtual Reality system and Vuze+ stereoscopic 360º camera. We are developing Virtual Reality apps that allow users to remotely tour our collections, laboratories and field sites, and interact with digitized specimens in a curated VR environment.
Meta Quest owners can download our first interactive experience, “Montbrook Alligator collection” here. Users can explore the Montbrook fossil dig site, the Museum’s Vertebrate Paleontology and Herpetology collections and compare fossil and modern alligator skulls.
Thanks to the generous support of the UF Medical Guild, we are developing a VR experience that transports users to the Florida Museum Butterfly Rainforest. Currently available upon email request as an Alpha, this interactive combines 3D environmental photogrammetry with animated butterfly models to allow users to experience the serene environment and beautiful butterflies through their VR headsets.
We are developing more experiences and will make them available in the near future. These VR interactives increase accessibility to our collections, labs and field sites, and we plan to implement many of these experiences into classes at the University of Florida.
