The blackspotted topminnow is a member of the topminnow family. It has a wide black-blue stripe along the side of the body from the snout onto the caudal fin, and many black spots on the back and upper side of the body. There is a silver-white spot on top of the head, and this species has yellow fins. Blackspotted topminnows live near the surface of sandy to gravelly pools of headwaters, creeks and small to medium rivers.
