The Cypress minnow is a member of the minnow, shiner and chub family. These minnows have thinly outlined scales with a diamond-shaped appearance, and their dorsal fin originates in front of their pelvic fin origin. It has a thin, dusky and yellow-green stripe along middle of its back. The Cypress minnow is found in the backwaters and pools of streams, usually over mud and near vegetation or woody debris.
