The mountain mullet is a member of the mullet family. This species has no adipose eyelid and a dark blotch at the caudal fin base. Juveniles have a prominent cream-colored stripe on the side, and all individuals have slightly subterminal mouths. Mountain mullets are a marine species that enters freshwater creeks, rivers and canals. Some populations are thought to spawn in freshwater, while others spawn in marine environments.
