Family Leuciscidae
The redeye chub is a member of the minnow, shiner and chub family, and has a pinkish-tan top side and a red eye. There is a prominent dark stripe along the side, ending at a large black blotch at the caudal fin base. A black stripe extends around the snout and onto the upper lip, strongly contrasting with the tan to light yellow snout. There is a small barbel at the corner of the slightly subterminal mouth.
