Seasonal decorations are often made of synthetic and plastic materials that are harmful to the planet. These items are usually cheaply made and thrown away at the end of the season ending up in landfills.

Guide to Sustainable Decorations

• Use nature! Leaves, twigs, and pine cones can all be used as fall decor around the house.
• Try making DIY decorations by up-cycling old materials.
• Shop secondhand before purchasing anything from the store or online. You can find great fall home decor at thrift shops or yard sales.
• Compost pumpkins or any other produce that was used for decoration.
• Consider cooking your pumpkins and turning them in to pies, soups or bread. Even the seeds are edible and can be made into a crunchy snack.
• Opt for higher quality decor so it is not thrown out at the end of Fall and can be reused.
• Brainstorm decor that can be used for different holidays such as Halloween and Thanksgiving.
