Position description

The Doris Duke Conservation Scholars Program Collaborative is a two-year experiential conservation training program for undergraduates who are interested in careers in conservation and in promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in the field. Scholars take part in applied field research projects, professional internships, mentoring, and form strong professional networks. Scholars learn a variety of field techniques and research and presentation skills. Students are also prepared to help increase diversity, equity, and inclusion in the field of conservation through coursework in communication, creative problem solving, leadership, and diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Qualifications

To be eligible for this program, applicants must have completed at least one year of college-level work at one of the Collaborating Institutions before summer. These are: University of Idaho, University of Florida, University of Arizona, North Carolina State University, and University of Massachusetts Amherst. Students from all backgrounds who attend or are planning to attend a collaborating university (UF, UI, UA, UMass, or NCSU) and have at least 3 semesters left following the spring in which they are accepted before they graduate are eligible to apply. This includes current freshmen and sophomores. High school seniors are not eligible to apply and are encouraged to apply during their freshman year of college.

Deadline to Apply:

The deadline for early applications, which will receive priority consideration, is 12/01/2022. The general deadline is 2/15/2023, but applications will be evaluated as they are received and applicants may be interviewed and/or accepted before the general deadline on a case-by-case basis. However, interviews for all top applicants are usually scheduled and conducted a few weeks after the general application deadline.
