It’s been a busy fall at TESI supporting Environmental Leaders across campus. Let’s take a look at everything we’ve been up to this semester.

Membership

EL

This fall, our Network gained 182 new members. Our community now totals 501 members across campus! Out of the 76 majors represented within the Network, the most popular major is Environmental Science followed by Wildlife Ecology and Conservation, Sustainability Studies, Economics, Environmental Engineering, and Political Science to name a few. Some other fun majors represented within the Network include Journalism, Psychology, Dietetics, English, Sociology, Physics, and more!

Sharing Opportunities

EL

This semester, we sent out nine newsletters chock-full of opportunities for our Environmental Leaders Network members. Out of the opportunities listed within our newsletters, the ones most clicked on by members included the UF NATL undergraduate internship, Alachua Conservation Trust EnviroEd volunteering position, and the EL Network Trivia Night.

Another feature within our newsletters is an EL Network blog post. The Communicating Climate Effectively at the EL Network Lunch and Learn and Why You Should Attend the Career Showcase (Even as a Freshman!) blogs were most popular among members.

Events

The Environmental Leaders Network also held a variety of different events and tabled across campus during the semester. We reached over 150 people across these events and we can’t wait to meet more members next semester!

Trivia Night

Our very first event this semester was an event we had never done before – a trivia night! Six teams duked it out intellectually with the Pesto Penguins eventually coming out on top.

Hallow-green

The second annual Hallow-green event also took place this semester. The UF Office of Sustainability, Sustainable Ocean Alliance, and UF Wetlands Club were all in attendance with fun crafts and activities for all who came.

Let’s Talk Climate: Lunch and Learn

To better help students effectively talk to others about climate change, Dr. Megan Ennes presented her workshop on climate communication strategies. This event was hosted in partnership with the UF Bob Graham Center’s Gulf Scholars program.

Tabling

Besides hosting our own events, we also tabled throughout the semester, meeting a variety of new people who soon became members!

  • NRDI Women in the Field event
  • CURBS Research Expo
  • SNRE Research Symposium
  • Florida Museum Halloween Event
  • EL Network Nature Study Break

We look forward to hosting more events in the spring and seeing our new mentorship program (apply here) launch!
