Position description
The Florida Springs Institute (FSI) is looking for two dedicated and responsible individuals to fill the position of “Science Intern” from the week of August 22nd through December 3rd, 2022. During this time, interns are expected to provide 15-18 hours (approximately 2 days) per week of assistance to FSI staff either in the field or at the FSI office located in High Springs. Our interns are an integral part of our team and receive hands-on training in scientific data collection, equipment use and calibration, and data entry.
Qualifications
An ideal candidate will:
• Be comfortable swimming, snorkeling, paddling, and/or being on a small boat in freshwater environments, such as springs and rivers with fast-moving currents;
• Have completed some college coursework in the sciences, such as biology, environmental science, zoology, geology or have relevant experience
• Have a passion for springs and their protection and restoration.
All candidates MUST: • Provide their own transportation to the FSI office and/or other off-site meeting locations; and • Have access to a laptop that can be used throughout the internship period while working at the FSI office • Be team-oriented and work cooperatively with FSI staff and other interns
