This opportunity is curated through the UF TESI Environmental Leaders Network. Opportunities posted through the Network may not be affiliated with the Florida Museum or TESI, but are shared with UF undergraduate students who want to learn more about environmental research, education and outreach, and civic engagement.

Description 

Porters Quarters is a historically Black neighborhood located near Downtown Gainesville. This event is to maintain the community farm that will be a source of free produce for the neighborhood.

Activities may include lawn maintenance, planting, weed pulling, site cleanup, installing irrigation, and preparing the greenhouses for the winter. Remember to bring sunscreen, closed toed shoes, and water!

Volunteering Terms

– The food grown is for the Porters Quarters community (particularly Black and Brown community members), so volunteers will not take food unless specifically invited to do so.

– Volunteers will upload proof of COVID-19 vaccination OR a negative COVID-19 test taken no more than 72 hours in advance.

– Volunteers will complete the acknowledgement of risk form and media release (available below)
