Position description

Teton Raptor Center is a nonprofit organization working to advance raptor conservation through education, research, and rehabilitation. We are located at the historic Hardeman Ranch, a Jackson Hole Land Trust-protected property in Wilson, Wyoming.

The Raptor Rehab Internship is an opportunity to support the work of a vibrant conservation organization. We are looking for someone who is curious, enthusiastic, and ready to roll up his or her sleeves to work hard, deepen the work of raptor conservation, and be part of a passionate team. This is an excellent opportunity to build your experience handling and working with over 23 raptor and corvid species. Your role will also include support of communications and campus stewardship. This internship experience is multifaceted and will provide training, mentorship, and opportunities in the following areas:

  • Rehabilitation
    • Medical treatment and support
    • Live raptor care and handling
    • Daily care of rehabilitation patients
    • Cleaning of the clinic, enclosures, and equipment
    • Food preparation and feeding
    • Rehabilitation support
    • Flight and conditioning training
    • Live prey care and husbandry
    • Field rescues and transport of injured birds
    • Communication with the public about patient status
  • Communications
    • Social Media
    • Develop social media content for various digital platforms

Qualifications

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills, including excellent writing skills
  • Familiarity with video and online media platforms
  • A love of nature and a desire to share that passion with others
  • Knowledge of science, natural history, and birds of prey (a strong interest in wildlife, enthusiasm, strong work ethic, maturity, and willingness to learn are more important than academic qualifications)
  • Willingness to take initiative, roll up your sleeves, problem solve and multi-task effectively and with humor while working with a small group of very committed people
  • Ability to tolerate time spent in front of a computer, as well as physical labor
  • Good health and fitness, ability to perform physically demanding tasks such as cleaning and lifting (up to 40 lbs.) and work outdoors in all sorts of weather
  • Recently graduated, at least 21 years of age, holds a valid drivers license
  • Commitment to entire internship timeframe and ability and flexibility to work evenings, holidays, and weekends
