Position description

The Predator-Prey program at Archbold Biological Station (ABS) is hiring an intern to support a new project called the Corridor Observatory. The Corridor Observatory is a funded project designed to examine wildlife species occupancy in the working landscape of South-Central Florida, a region where multiple critical landscape linkages converge to form ecological connections between South Florida and Central Florida. Interns in the Predator-Prey program gain experience in building and maintaining field equipment, managing large volumes of data, study design and analysis, and science communication. The interns play an important role in Archbold’s research and education programs and participate in a variety of tasks in the field and in the office. Archbold interns are provided an opportunity to design and develop an independent research project during their term at Archbold.

Qualifications

  • United States citizenship or a US work visa
  • valid driver’s license
  • Excellence in academics is expected and an awarded B.Sc. degree in Wildlife, Biology, Conservation, Ecology, Agro-Ecology or a related field is preferred
  • prepared to tolerate high heat and humidity, and the wet, often buggy field conditions familiar to South Florida
  • self-motivation, an orientation towards teamwork, and a willingness to take instruction
  • attention to detail with respect to following protocols and managing data
