Thompson Earth Systems Institute Faculty Fellow Dr. Andrea Lucky and students Casey Parker and Rachel Atchinson work with Streaming Science‘s new Scientist Online program to introduce students to entomologists investigating mosquitoes and mosquito-borne illnesses. The program is a collaboration with the UF/IFAS Center for Public Issues Education.
Through this program, middle and high school teachers can participate through the Skype in the Classroom infrastructure to allow for a dialogue to develop between scientists and students. Each program will be approximately 30-45 minutes and is scheduled in two hour blocks. There are six time slots coming up in April.
The learning objectives of the Science of Mosquitoes include:
- Describe the mosquito life cycle, habitats, and physical traits
- List mosquito-borne diseases
- Summarize mosquito-borne illness prevention and protection methods
