Opportunity title
Volunteer as an Energy Coach
Host organization/department
Community Weatherization Coalition
Description
The CWC helps low-income residents in Gainesville make small changes to their homes to lower their electricity and water bills through our Home Energy Tune-ups. We’re looking for volunteer energy coaches who will be trained to perform these energy tune-ups in pairs. Our Energy Coaches help our neighbors and the planet at the same time! Once our Energy Coaches “graduate” from the training and pass our background check, they are prepared to visit our neighbors’ homes to help them save household water and energy – and reduce their utility expenses – during the home energy tuneup. The training will cover the specifics of how tune-ups work, the skills and knowledge needed to conduct them, and some background on the impact of the CWC’s work since 2008. They’ll also be joining a lively and welcoming community of science-based helpers and have a chance to meet and talk with experts in a variety of fields relevant to our work!
Location
Gainesville, Florida
Why should students participate?
Students will gain experience in weatherizing homes and community engagement. Reducing utility usage helps our neighbors and the planet at the same time. It’s extremely rewarding and an asset to any resume.
