We will meet at the Gopher Tortoise Gate (through Loyce Harpe Park) and hike 1.5 miles to the Se7en Wetlands Influent where a “light trap” will be set up.

Our “light trap” will use black lights suspended in front of a light colored sheet. The UV black light attracts many insects, including moths, where they then land on the sheet. We will use iNaturalist to document our nocturnallepidoptera (moths and butterflies) with the help of Polk County Entomologists and Se7en Wetlands staff.

This is a one-way hiking event. Staff will transport you in a passenger van back to the Gopher Tortoise Gate entrance after the event ends. Children must be supervised by adults at all times.
