The Florida Museum of Natural History is seeking volunteers to help dig at the Montbrook dig site in Levy County for the month of November. The Montbrook Site is very productive and almost all volunteers will find some fossil specimens on their first day. The most commonly found fossils are bones from the shell of freshwater turtles and vertebrae, spines, scales, and skull bones of fish, including gar, catfish, snook, and drum.

The Sandhill Chapter of the Florida Trail Association is hosting a week of Stephen Foster State Park, Suwannee River Trail Maintenance from Nov. 1-7. Our crew will camp at Stephen Foster State Park in White Springs. We will use a combination of power equipment and hand tools to bring the trail back up to standard. Work will start from the town of White Springs and head west as far as time allows during the project. Registration is free.

This free one-day symposium on low impact development (LID) principles and implementation. LID is a design approach to manage stormwater runoff. When used effectively, rain gardens, bioswales, pervious pavement and other LID methods can often improve nutrient removal, use a smaller footprint, and provide additional benefits when compared to a traditional stormwater pond system. GTM Research Reserve is hosting a BioBlitz on Nov. 6 in Ponta Vedra. This BioBlitz will be a 2-hour biological inventory (or scavenger hunt) to find as many plant and animal species as we can! Professionals, educators, volunteers, interns, students, citizen scientists and more will gather to inventory the coastal sand dune and the pine flatwoods habitats. Registration is free.
