Montbrook Fossil Dig

The Florida Museum of Natural History is seeking volunteers to help dig at the Montbrook dig site in Levy County for the month of November. The Montbrook Site is very productive and almost all volunteers will find some fossil specimens on their first day. The most commonly found fossils are bones from the shell of freshwater turtles and vertebrae, spines, scales, and skull bones of fish, including gar, catfish, snook, and drum.

OCALA NATIONAL FOREST: Juniper Prairie Wilderness Trail Maintenance

The Black Bear Chapter of the Florida Trail Association is hosting a week of Juniper Prairie Wilderness Trail Maintenance from Nov. 15-21 in the Ocala National Forest. The wilderness is a unique part of the Florida Trail and it is maintained with hand tools only, bringing a legacy of skill and hard work to each day. We will also work on the western corridor of the Ocala NF using mechanized equipment. Registration is free.
