Graduate student John Pfeiffer (FM-Ichthyology), Dr. Kitty Emery (FM-EAP), and Dr. Ashley Sharpe (STRI) and Larry Page (FM-Ichthyology) have just published a collaborative study producing the first molecular phylogeny of freshwater mussels native to Mexico and Central America. This work facilitates identification of these species and enables tracing of use patterns from archaeological sites in the Maya region.
