The research on Po Plain stratigraphic paleobiology for this project began as a collaborative effort between researchers in Virginia, USA and Bologna, Italy. Over time, the project moved to the Florida Museum, University of Florida, where the collections are being curated as a permanent resource for researchers.
Getting all the shells separated from sediment in the cores, then sorted, identified, and curated, has been a big task conducted by a team of paleontologists, interns, and students. Their collective effort has resulted in cabinets full of an archive of diversity over time of mollusks in the Po Plain river delta, that can be accessed and researched by people in years to come. By curating the shells in a museum, the Po Plain project material has now become an invaluable resource for geologists and paleontologists of future generations.
