The Butterflies of Iguazu Falls, Argentina

Presented by: William (Bill) J. Cooper, Professor Emeritus, University of California, Irvine, CA

Abstract: This talk is a picture show of the butterflies of Iguazu Falls. I have now traveled to Iguazu Falls five times to photograph and video the butterflies. I have accumulated nearly 25,000 photographs and videos of the butterfly diversity at the Falls. Because of my confusion in the Hesperiidae, I’m somewhere between 200 and 220 species. The diversity at Iguazu Falls is spectacular. However, I’ve seen over the years as the number of tourists increases, the difficulty observing butterflies decreases. This conundrum is likely the same all over the world.
