A partial antler of the extinct deer, Eocoileus gentryorum, was discovered by volunteer Terry Tydings on February 25th, 2017.
This represents the oldest deer in the New World!
Specimens had previously been known only from the Palmetto Fauna of Florida, which is slightly younger in age.
Eocoileus gentryorum is considered to be a primitive member of the present day white-tailed deer, Odocoileus virginianus.
