We wrapped up our dig at Thomas Farm where students and volunteers got in some great experiences and found a lot of cool 18 million year old fossils! These photos from the last few days include some hard work put in screen washing. Thanks to everyone for the help prepping the site, carrying, digging, washing and negotiating with the local animals and insects.
Some notable finds were an alligator skull, an Archaeohippus jaw with teeth, a beautiful rhino vert, and several Parahippus teeth and a llama tooth. It was very productive and we were able to remove several plaster jackets!
Our dig team is looking forward to returning to Montbrook but this break to dig at Thomas Farm was a great look at another one of Florida’s important fossil sites.
