This charming photo of our herpetologist Coleman Sheehy was part of a project that found Kristen and our science writer in the wilds of coastal Florida. Coleman was introducing University of Florida and Santa Fe College students to hands-on fieldwork as part of a course called Island Biology.

Coleman, our herpetology collections manager, designed this course for undergraduate students to gain experience in the field as part of their curriculum while also supporting conservation efforts. The students learned about monitoring diamondback terrapins, a species of turtle that lives in brackish coastal waters.
