Warren began his career in IT as a field technician for IBM in 1993 where he repaired and serviced PS/2 workstations, Intel based servers, and RS6000 RISC servers. Like many IBM employees, Warren moved around and was stationed in in Tallahassee, FL, Valdosta, GA, and eventually Gainesville, FL with temporary work assignments in Atlanta, GA, Austin, TX, and Memphis, TN.
Warren left the private sector in 1997 to work in IT support for the Office of the Provost at the University of Florida where he provided direct support to Academic Affairs, News & Public Affairs, Academic Personnel, Office of the Inspector General, Office of the General Counsel, the Affirmative Action Office, and the Office of the President.
With the dawn of the new century in 2000, Warren stepped up his long time interest in software development to a professional level and accepted a Systems Programmer position in the College of Health and Human Performance, moving from Tigert Hall to the Old Florida Gym. While working at Health and Human Performance, he developed a web based polymorphic survey tool for which the University of Florida filed a patent application.
Warren accepted the position of CIO for a multi-speciality Ophthalmology practice in 2002 and returned to the private sector to lead a multi-year initiative implementing electronic health records (EHR) across five clinic locations and an ambulatory surgery center. He went on to implement a computerized point of sale (POS) system for the optical dispensaries, implement a HIPAA ANSI 4010A X12N compliant billing and practice management system, and develop software that was licensed to other medical practices.
In 2010, Warren again left the private sector, returning to the University of Florida to find his home in the Florida Museum of Natural History Office of Museum Technology. He has served as the Museum’s IT Director and Director of the Office of Museum Technology since 2016.
Warren has an M.S. in Information Systems and Operations Management with concentrations in Data Science and Information Technology. He was the recipient of the ISOM Forum Scholarship, two Director’s Achievement Awards, and inducted into Beta Gamma Sigma. He enjoys software engineering, French bulldogs, has a deep appreciation of Bauhaus and Mid-century Modern design, and has an undying love of Paris.
