My focal plants for research have been the oak family Fagaceae and their close relatives (Fagales). My research spans a wide range of topics in plant systematics and evolution. The general research goal is to 1) resolve the phylogenetic relationship of the species, then test systematic and evolutionary hypotheses in a phylogenetic context, 2) explore the roles of the environmental change and functional traits to the diversity pattern of Fagaceae and the Fagales; and 3) conserve the Asian endangered Fagaceae trees.

I am currently working with Dr. Steve Manchester on a project to explore the comparative anatomy of extant plants and fossils of the Fagales.
