For the past few day I have been in Alabama with Prof Steven Manchester and his class searching for fossilized leaves. We departed from the Museum at 1 pm on Friday and arrived in Birmingham, Alabama at 9 pm. We rested for the night at a hotel and early in the morning headed to Cahaba Environment Center at Living River. At the site we meet up with other professor from the area whom would be our guides.
The site we visited used to be an old coal mine, now abandoned but still rich in fossilized plants that date all the way back to the Pennsylvanian. We spent most of the morning in that first locality, and during the afternoon we headed to Tuskegee to another site that contained Cretaceous fossilizes plant deposits.
After we spend the entire day fossil hunting in Alabama we headed back to Gainesville and arrived at 3:30 am of Sunday morning. This weekend we saw amazing localities, collected extraordinary fossils, met new people and made good friends.
