Upper teeth have distally curved crowns, coarse serrations not continued to the apex; root high and compressed. Lower teeth have unserrated, long, pointing and lingually inclined crowns, small cusplets near the base, and bilobate roots.
Size: 5-25 mm (height)
Ecology: inhabited tropical nearshore and offshore waters (1 to 30 m), feeding on bony fish, other sharks, ray, crabs and cephalopods; estimated to reach 6 m in length.
Geological range: Oligocene-Pliocene.
Geographic distribution: fossil record in the Caribbean and Pacific.
