A talented photographer, a kind man and a nature lover are only a few of many adjectives that can be applied to Jeff Gage. Jeff has been working at the Florida Museum of Natural History for over 12 years. He started with the Museum in 1999 as the audiovisual coordinator under Dr. Bruce MacFadden’s supervision and eventually becoming the lead photographer. His passion for photography was clear at a young age when his high school mentor encouraged Jeff to pursue photography and start a career as a sports photographer for a local newspaper. Jeff was given the opportunity to take photography courses every year throughout his entire high school education.
In the summer of 2013, Jeff was asked to go to Panama during the summer of 2013 to tag along scientists, science teachers, and a team of PCP PIRE staff to document the educational component of PCP PIRE called PCPPIREteach. Jeff did not hesitate and felt blessed to have such an opportunity. During our trip Jeff was always alongside with us documenting, telling stories and becoming part of the PCP PIRE family. When asked, what is the most rewarding aspect of working at the Museum, Jeff will say that every day is different and that as a photographer he is lucky to have an impact locally and internationally on children and adults. We know for sure his photographs will reach students in classrooms and that his legacy will become a valuable treasure to be shared with younger generations.
In December 2013, we had a professional development wrap-up session in Gainesville with the teachers from CA and FL. We toured the museum collections and exhibits and collected fossils during an overnight stay at Thomas Farm. Jeff volunteered to join us. At first, we thought he was only coming to document the event, but quickly realized that he was key in helping us not only with photography, but with the logistics as well. Our time at Thomas Farm was a huge success and most of it had to do with Jeff’s kindness and generosity. “It was a pleasure to work with Jeff a decade ago in exhibits, and now the PCP PIRE Teach is allowing us to reconnect. It reminds me why I liked working with him so much.” – Bruce MacFadden.
We will always be proud to have such a remarkable professional as part of the PCP PIRE team. We also are thankful to the Florida Museum of Natural History for allowing Jeff to participate in the PCP PIRE as part of his professional assignment of responsibilities.

Un talentoso fotógrafo, un hombre amable y amante de la naturaleza, son sólo algunos de los muchos adjetivos que se pueden aplicar a Jeff Gage. Jeff ha estado trabajando en el Museo de Historia Natural de la Florida por más de 12 años. Comenzó con el Museo en 1999 como coordinador audiovisual bajo la supervisión del Dr. Bruce MacFadden y se convirtió finalmente en el fotógrafo principal . Su pasión por la fotografía fue clara desde muy joven cuando su mentor de la escuela secundaria lo animó para seguir en la fotografía y comenzar una carrera como fotógrafo de deportes de un periódico local. Jeff tuvo la oportunidad de tomar cursos de fotografía cada año a lo largo de toda su educación secundaria.
En el verano de 2013 , se le pidió a Jeff que fuera a Panamá durante el verano de 2013 para acompañar a científicos, profesores de ciencias y un equipo del PCP PIRE para documentar el componente educativo de PCP PIRE llamado PCPPIREteach . Jeff no lo dudó y se sintió bendecido por tener esa oportunidad. Durante nuestro viaje Jeff estaba siempre junto con nosotros la documentación, contando historias y convirtiéndose en parte de la familia PCP PIRE . Cuando se le preguntó sobre el aspecto más gratificante de trabajar en el Museo, Jeff mencionó que cada día es diferente y que como fotógrafo tiene la suerte de tener un impacto a nivel local y a nivel internacional sobre los niños y los adultos. Sabemos a ciencia cierta que sus fotografías llegarán a los estudiantes en las aulas y que su legado se convertirá en un valioso tesoro para ser compartido con las generaciones más jóvenes.
En diciembre de 2013, hicimos una sesión de recapitulación profesional en Gainesville con los docentes de California y Florida. Recorrimos por las colecciones de los museos, exposiciones y fósiles colectados durante una estadía en Thomas Farm. Jeff se ofreció para unirse a nosotros. Al principio pensamos que sólo venía a documentar el evento, pero enseguida nos dimos cuenta de que era clave en ayudarnos no sólo con la fotografía, sino también con la logística. Nuestro tiempo en Thomas Farm fue un gran éxito y la mayor parte tenía que ver con la bondad y generosidad de Jeff. “Fue un placer trabajar con Jeff hace una década en exposiciones, y ahora el PCPPIRE Teach está permitiendo volvernos a conectar. Esto me recuerda por qué me ha gustado trabajar tanto con él. ” – Bruce MacFadden .
Siempre estaremos orgullosos de tener a un profesional tan extraordinario como parte del equipo de PCP PIRE. También estamos agradecidos con el Museo de Historia Natural de Florida por permitirle Jeff para participar en el proyecto como parte de sus responsabilidades.
