Research Interests
Gifford’s primary research focus examines the interactions among the various Southeastern Native American groups brought together during the Spanish mission period in Florida in the 17th and 18th centuries. He also has an interest in the period of early Spanish exploration in the Americas, and has conducted fieldwork throughout the southeastern U.S. and Caribbean.
