- General description: Densely branched large shrub or small tree with large, whorled leaves and numerous small tubular orange-red flowers. Easy to cultivate and extremely versatile. Tolerates full sun to deep shade with well-drained to rather moist soils. Drought tolerant. Evergreen in southernmost counties. Will die back to the ground in areas with freezing temperatures. Flowers attract butterflies and hummingbirds. Berries attract birds.
